Report of Suspicious Activity Leads to Arrest

On September 19, 2015, at approximately 9:20 a.m. the Emergency Communications Center received a phone call from a concerned citizen witnessing a suspicious person walking in the area of WaWa in California, MD. The suspect appeared to have a gun inside a bag he was carrying. When approached by deputies, the suspect Keyon Stansbury Thomas, age 25, of Leonardtown, MD threw the bag down and attempted to flee on foot. After a short chase, the suspect was apprehended. The bag was searched and revealed a stolen AK-47 from a burglary reported the day before. Thomas was also wanted in Charles County on an open warrant and is prohibited from possessing regulated firearms. He was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Possession Regulated Firearm, and Theft Less than $1000.00.
