Drug Arrest-  On January 27, 2019, Dep. M. Beyer, made contact with Paul Edward Moore, age 36 with no fixed address, in the 21000 block of Great Mills Road, in Lexington Park.  Moore had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  While being taken into custody Moore was found to have a suspected Suboxone strip, and a container with suspected Xanax pills on his person.  Moore was arrested and charged with CDS: Possession-Not Marijuana and served his outstanding arrest warrant.  CASE# 5375-19

Sobriety Checkpoint on Saturday, Feb. 2


The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of other agencies, will be conducting a roadside sobriety checkpoint during the evening of Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, on Route 4 in California. The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office will also be conducting a roadside sobriety checkpoint on Route 4 on the north side of the Gov. Thomas Johnson Bridge.

At Saturday’s checkpoint, law enforcement officers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Drivers will also be checked for other traffic infractions.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office recognizes that roadside sobriety checkpoints are highly-visible and efficient tools used in efforts against impaired driving. Sheriff Tim Cameron asks that everyone drive safely and sober.

Burglary-  On January 23, 2019, DFC. Davis J. Davis responded to the 21600 block of Susan Lane in Lexington Park, for a reported burglary to a vacant apartment.  Discovered in the apartment were Cornelius NMN Fenwick, age 41, and Samantha Lynn Rainer, age 26, both with no fixed address. Both Fenwick and Rainer had previously been served with notices not to trespass on the property.  Both were arrested and charged with Burglary 4th Degree and Trespassing.  Fenwick was also charged with Possession of Contraband at Place of Confinement after a baggie of suspected marijuana was located on Fenwick's person.  CASE# 4583-19

Disorderly Conduct/Resisting Arrest-  On January 24, 2019, DFC. J.  Davis responded to the 22100 block of Three Notch Road in Lexington Park, to assist with a request for a conservator.  Prior to arriving on scene Davis was advised the individual requesting the conservator, Theiron Darnell Bost, age 30 of Suitland, had numerous outstanding warrants. When taken into custody for the warrants, Bost began to yell at patrons of the business, and began creating a disturbance. Bost also attempted to pull away from officers at the time of his arrest.  Bost was served his outstanding warrants and also charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.  CASE# 4844-19

Assault-  On January 25, 2019, DFC. Holdsworth responded to the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, for two reported assaults.  Investigation determined Jesse Werner Abell, age 25 of Hollywood, assaulted the victim by pushing and shoving the victim, while the parties were at indoor recreation.  Later on the 25th, Benjamin Jamal Washington, age 18 of Hyattsville, used a food tray to strike the victim on the back of the head while the victim was eating.  Both Abell and Washington were charged with Assault.  CASE# 5104-5108-19

Assault-  On January 25, 2019, Cpl. Pesante responded to the 38700 block of Ted Circle in Avenue for the reported assault.  Investigation determined Joseph Leroy Perry, age 28 of Avenue, assaulted the victim by striking the victim with a cellphone charger, and choking the victim, causing visible injury.  Perry was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 5134-19

Assault-  On January 26, 2019, Dep. Employers asked to Beware of Payroll Scam

Employers in St. Mary’s County are asked to be aware of a recent payroll scam affecting employees.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating recent cases where employees’ personal email accounts were spoofed by one or more scammers, requesting that an employee’s direct deposit account number be changed to a different account number.

In some of the instances, the new account number was based at a financial institution outside of Maryland.

Local employers are encouraged to double-check with their employees to verify any requests to change direct deposit accounts, and not to verify the request through email, which may be spoofed.

Wanted for Escape- Michael Norfolk

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the whereabouts of Michael Ryan Norfolk, age 30 from Lexington Park.  Norfolk has an active warrant for his arrest for Escape Second Degree for failing to report to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, to serve his sentence as court ordered. Norfolk was originally sentenced for the charge of Burglary Fourth Degree. Norfolk is 6’2” in height, and weighs 222 pounds; he has brown eyes and black hair.

Peeping Tom Arrest


On January 26, 2019, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Walmart store located on Miramar Way in California, Maryland for the reported assault.  Investigation determined the 19-year-old victim was inside the men’s restroom, when he observed a cellphone being held over the bathroom stall, pointed in his direction.  The victim confronted the suspect, later identified as Aloysius Marcus Albritton, age 39 of Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Albritton fled the restroom; the victim pursued Albritton and attempted to detain him for law enforcement.  Albritton assaulted the victim, and fled the store on foot, but was quickly apprehended by responding deputies.  Albritton provided deputies with false names and information in attempt to conceal his identity. Ultimately, Albritton was identified and arrested; Albritton was charged with the following crimes:

Private Place- Prurient Intent
Peeping Tom
Fraud-Personal Identity-Avoid Prosecution
Assault Second Degree

Albritton is currently incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on a no bond status.

Traffic Tip Tuesdays: Earbuds/Headphones Prohibited While Driving

Traffic Tip Tuesdays

In an effort to promote awareness of state traffic laws, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office posts excerpts of the 2018-2019 edition of The Maryland Vehicle Law Annotated on Tuesdays.

Adhering to the law will make roadways in St. Mary’s County and in Maryland safer for drivers, passengers, bicyclists, horse-and-buggy operators and pedestrians.

Earphones, headphones:

Sec. 21-1120 “A person may not drive a motor vehicle on any highway or on any private property that is used by the public in general in this State while the person is wearing over or in both ears earplugs … over or in both ears a headset … over or in both ears earphones attached to a radio, tape player or other audio device.” Exceptions include safety earplugs, hearing aids and headsets used for communicating with other emergency personnel.

Drivers wearing headphones or earphones face a $60 ticket and one point assessed on a license or a $100 ticket and three points if contributing to an accident.

Narcotics Arrest in Lexington Park


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In January of 2019, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Division began an investigation on DeAndre Terille Taylor, (aka “DT”) age 29 of Bushwood, for the distribution of controlled dangerous substances. During the course of the investigation, a Search and Seizure Warrant was obtained for an apartment in Lexington Park.

On January 25, 2019, members of the Vice Narcotics Division, along with Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Team, Vice Narcotics Support Team, and Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, executed the Search and Seizure Warrant. Taylor was located at the apartment and found to be in possession of suspected heroin, crack cocaine, Buprenorphine, Naloxone (Suboxone), and a digital scale.

Taylor was arrested and charged with CDS Possession-Not Marijuana and incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on a no bond status.

Additional charges are pending review with States Attorney Richard D. Fritz.

Narcotics Arrest



In April of 2018, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Division began an investigation into Charles Kevin Niles,’ age 46 of Lexington Park, involvement in the distribution of controlled dangerous substances. As a result of the investigation, a search and seizure warrant was obtained for Niles’ person and vehicle.

On January 23, 2019, members of the Narcotics Division observed Niles operating his vehicle in a parking lot of a business located in California, Maryland. The search and seizure warrant was executed with the assistance of patrol deputies on Niles and the vehicle he was operating.  The search warrant yielded suspected cocaine, (having an approximate street value of $13,800), suspected marijuana, suspected Oxycodone pills, THC Vape, a scale, various unidentified pills, and U.S. currency. Niles was arrested without incident and charged with the following:

CDS: Possession-W/I to Distribute CDS
CDS: Possession-Paraphernalia

Niles is currently incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on a no bond status.

Sheriff's Office Assists in Homeless Count

Corrections officers and deputies of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office participated in the annual Point in Time homeless count on Wednesday evening along with volunteers and other local officials.
Federal, state and local governments need to know the number of homeless people living in local communities to provide the necessary services.
The count "is a really important thing for us," Lanny Lancaster, Executive Director of the Three Oaks Center in Lexington Park, told volunteers during a briefing before the count. "This count gives us a snapshot of the problem in our county."
Volunteers and officials fanned out to every election district in St. Mary's County to make the count.

Weapon Arrest in Great Mills


On January 22, 2019, at approximately 9:18 p.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were in the 45500 block of Coronado Drive in Great Mills, actively searching for a burglary suspect. Corporal Brandon Foor observed a vehicle with a passenger that resembled the individual being sought.  Cpl. Foor made contact with the passenger later determined to be Davian Marquess Curtis, age 20 of Lexington Park. Curtis was found to have a loaded handgun in his jacket pocket, and a quantity of marijuana was discovered on Curtis’ person.  Also recovered from Curtis’ jacket was a digital scale and U.S. currency.  A check of the handgun’s serial number revealed it to have been reported stolen in North Carolina.  Ultimately, Curtis was deemed not to be the suspect initially sought, however Curtis was arrested and charged with the following:

Curtis is currently incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on a no bond status.

On View Arrests/Warrants/DUI/Criminal Citation

On View Arrests:

Assault-  On January 17, 2019, Cpl. Foor responded to the 16700 block of Three Notch Road in Ridge, for the reported assault.  Investigation determined Kevin Anthony Murphy Jr., age 30 of Ridge, assaulted the victim.  Murphy and the victim were arguing when Murphy grabbed the victim and threw the victim onto the floor.  Visible injury was observed to the victim and Murphy was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 3439-19

Counterfeit Currency-  On January 17, 2019, Cpl. Pesante responded to the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center located in Leonardtown, for the report of found counterfeit currency.  Investigation determined Osie Mae Shade, age 59 of Ridge, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.  Once at the detention center her belongings were inventoried and it was discovered Shade had a counterfeit $100 bill in her property.  Shade was charged with Possession of Forged Currency.  CASE# 3433-19

Violation of Protective Order-  On January 18, 2019, Cpl. Ruest served a protective order in the 22500 block of Wainwright Court in California.  The respondent of the order was Phillip Edward Meagher III, age 47 of California.  After being read the order and the stipulations, such as no contact of any kind, Meagher began yelling at the victim.  Meagher was arrested and charged with Violate Protective Order.  CASE# 3633-19

Assault-  On January 19, 2019, Cpl. Stone responded to the 21300 block of South Essex Drive in Lexington Park, for the reported disturbance.  Upon arrival Tyrell Marquice Birdine, age 18, was on top of the victim, actively assaulting the victim.  Deputies removed Birdine from the victim, at which time Birdine attempted to flee.  Birdine was advised he was under arrest; he continued to resist and try to run.  Once Birdine was placed into handcuffs, he attempted to once again flee from deputies.  Birdine began causing a further disturbance by yelling, and causing a crowd to gather. Birdine was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resist/Interfere with Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.  CASE# 3658-19

Assault-  On January 19, 2019, Cpl. Kerby made contact with the victim in the 23900 block of Old Chaptico Wharf Lane in Chaptico, reference an assault.  Investigation determined David Grant Jones, age 40 of Chaptico, assaulted the victim during an argument by pushing the victim into a wall, causing injury to the victim's head.  Jones continued the argument, and continued to grab the victim and the victim's clothes.  A witness intervened and attempted to get Jones off the victim.  During the struggle Jones ultimately went through a glass door.  Jones was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 3739-19

Assault-  On January 19, 2019, Dep. Hersh responded to the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center for the reported assault.  Investigation determined Jahmek Iszaha Wright-Anthony, age 21 of New Jersey, assaulted the victim during in-door recreation by punching the victim several times in the face/head.  Wright-Anthony was charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 3777-19

Burglary-  On January 20, 2019, DFC. Lawrence responded to the Mechanicsville Elementary School located on Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville for the reported burglar alarm.  While searching the exterior of the school, a male was observed through a window asleep on a table in a classroom.  The individual was later identified as John Andrew Pankake, age 37 of  Mechanicsville.  While checking the school, numerous computer screens and other supplies had been destroyed and a case of ice cream sandwiches from the cafeteria consumed.  Pankake was charged with Burglary 2nd & 4th Degree, Theft, and Malicious Destruction of Property.  CASE# 3915-19

1/18/19-  Jerome NMN Daniels, age 40 with no fixed address, was charged with Trespass-Private Property via a Criminal Citation by Cpl. Beishline, after Daniels was observed on the property of Millison Plaza in Lexington Park.  Daniels was previously served a notice not to trespass on the property.  CASE# 3557-19
