Remembering Corporal Keith Fretwell

Corporal Earl "Keith" Fretwell

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office respectfully recalls Corporal Earl "Keith" Fretwell, who died on March 24, 1999. Fretwell joined the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office in October of 1988 and was recognized as Deputy of the Year in 1991. Fretwell also participated in the community-policing program and was a field training officer.  After a series of fainting spells and severe headaches, Fretwell was diagnosed with two brain tumors in 1997.

However, Fretwell diligently continued to serve the citizens of St. Mary's County after his diagnosis as the Sheriff's Crime Prevention Officer.

Fretwell received the rank of corporal posthumously, for his exemplary work and dedication to the citizens of St. Mary's County.

Fretwell "put in for everything and in everything he was selected for, he excelled," then-Sheriff Richard Voorhaar told The Enterprise in the March 26, 1999 edition.

The Sheriff's Office remembers Fretwell for his service and dedication to St. Mary's County.
