Be Vigilant Against Scam Calls

Residents of St. Mary's County are reminded to continue to be vigilant against scam callers.

Scammers often spoof local numbers and/or locations on your phone's caller ID. If you're not familiar with an incoming phone number, be cautious of who is on the line.

Scammers typically make threats and demand money. Scammers threaten with fraudulent arrest warrants or claim to be with utility entities, threatening to turn off water or electricity, and then demand payment -- usually through gift cards or other payment options.

When you hear the person demanding gift cards, you are likely being scammed. End the call and report it to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office at 301-475-8008 or make a report at https://www.firstsheriff.com/citizenreport/

Reminder: The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office does not call citizens with threats of arrest or demands of payment.

Be vigilant and protect your money.
