Suspect Charged With Home Invasion, Assault With a Knife - Winters

Ridge, Maryland - On May 14, 2015, Deputy Logue responded to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital for the report of a domestic assault, which occurred on May 1st at a residence on Airdele Road. The victim and suspect Wayne Darnell Winters, age 43, of Lexington Park, engaged in an argument, while the victim was standing at the front door holding the screen door open. Winters approached the victim and slammed the screen door shut, but continued to walk out of the home down the porch stairs. The victim told Winters to leave, at which time he turned and began walking back toward the front door. The victim was trying to lock the front door, when Winters kicked it in. Winters then produced a pocket knife, opened the blade, and held it to the victim's chest. The victim fell backward to the floor. Winters stood over the victim with the knife until another person in the home entered the room with a sledgehammer and told him to leave. Winters then fled out of the residence. The victim was treated for a non life-threatening head injury as a result of falling backwards on the floor.

On June 8, 2015, Winters was charged with Home Invasion, 3rd Degree Burglary, 4th Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Assault, and 2nd Degree Assault by arrest warrant. CASE #27931-15
