California, Maryland - On April 13, 2015 at 4:25 PM, Deputy Lawrence responded to a residence on Coledorall Court, for a reported assault. The victim alleged suspect Ceva Laurel Scott, age 17, of California, began an argument after the victim turned off Scott's cell phone the day before. Scott became enraged at which time the victim retreated to a bedroom and told Scott to go away. Scott followed the victim and began to attack the victim with her hands. Scott was able to pin the victim to the floor where she continued to hit the victim. The victim took self-defense action to end the attack. Scott then retrieved a kitchen knife and attempted to stab the victim. However, the victim was able to pick up a plastic trashcan and placed it in front of the victim's body. As Scott attempted to stab the victim, the knife plunged into the trashcan. She then fled the residence. Additionally, Scott caused property damage to items inside the residence during the assault.
St. Mary's County State's Attorney Richard Fritz conducted a review of the case and determined Scott was to be charged as an adult. Scott was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. She was charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and Property destruction Under $1,000.
