Juvenile Charged with Making Threats - Leonardtown HS

Leonardtown, Maryland - On September 18, 2014, a telephone call was received at Leonardtown High School indicating there was a destructive device in the school.  The school was checked and nothing was found.  On September 24, 2014, two telephone calls were received at Leonardtown High School indicating there were persons in the school with guns.  The school was placed on lockdown and the school searched.  No weapons were located.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division responded to the school and initiated an investigation into the origin of the calls.  As a result of that investigation, detectives identified a 14 year old female as the person making the false threats from inside the school on both occasions.  The juvenile was placed under arrest, transported to the Sheriff’s Office, charged with making a false statement concerning a destructive device, regarding the September 18th incident and disruption of school activities regarding today’s incident.  The juvenile was placed into the custody of the Department of Juvenile Services and transported to Waxter’s Children’s Center pending further action by juvenile authorities.
