Physical and Written Testing this Saturday for Potential Deputies and Corrections Officers




The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is holding its next round of physical agility and written testing for potential deputies, correctional officers and cadets on the morning of Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the agency headquarters in Leonardtown. The testing is not open to walk-ins.

However, the next round of physical agility and written testing for the Sheriff’s Office is scheduled in October. Applicants must complete and return a Personal History Statement to qualify for the next round of testing.

The application process is outlined at https://www.firstsheriff.com/applicationprocess.asp. The Personal History Statement (PHS) must be completed, printed and each page initialed at the bottom. At the end of the PHS ensure to have the Authorization for Release of Personal Information Form # 206 notarized. The entire Personal History Statement must be received by Sept. 27, 2019 for applicants to participate in the testing in October.

The Personal History Statement along with the notarized Authorization for Release of Personal Information Form # 206 can be delivered in person to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters at 23150 Leonard Hall Drive in Leonardtown or mailed to:

Applicants must pass the preliminary screening conditions to advance to the agility testing.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office offers sign-on bonuses for Deputies and Correctional Officers, annual compensation education bonuses and foreign and sign language stipends.

Deputies and Correctional Officers receive a $1,500 sign-on bonus paid in three installments: $500 when hired, $500 when completing the Criminal Justice Academy and $500 upon release from probation.
