Lexington Park, Maryland - On March 19, 2015, at 11:11 PM, deputies responded to the Rod N Reel store located at 18161 Three Notch Road, for an armed robbery in progress. Three (3) black male suspects entered the store armed with shotguns and a handgun. They pointed the weapons at the clerk and demanded money. The suspects ended up stealing the cash register, which contained an undisclosed amount of money then fled the scene.
A witness was passing by when the suspects exited the Rod N Reel with shotguns and a cash register. The witness called police and provided the make and model of the vehicle; Honda sedan with Maryland registration. A short time later, deputies observed the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop and a chase ensued. The Honda subsequently crashed in the area of Garrett Mobile Home Park on Point Lookout Road and two (2) passengers fled on foot. The driver, identified as Darrell William Battle, age 20, of Lexington Park, was immediately apprehended.
Additional patrol officers, Sheriff's Office K9 units, the Maryland State Police helicopter, and detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division saturated the area and conducted an exhaustive search for the remaining suspects. Both suspects were apprehended in short order and are identified as Joseph Deontay Jenkins, age 21, of Lexington Park, and Robert Martiese Morgan, age 19, of Lexington Park.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division assumed the investigation.
Battle, Jenkins, and Morgan were placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. They were each charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery, 1st Degree Assault, Firearm Use in Felony Violent Crime, and Theft Under $1,000.
