Robbery Suspect Identified and Arrested

On July 5, 2014 at approximately 12:24 AM, Sheriff’s Office Patrol units responded to the Wawa store on Three Notch Rd., California, Maryland, for the report of a robbery.  Upon arrival deputies determined a white male suspect entered the store and proceeded behind the counter where he removed five cartons of cigarettes from the shelf.  A store employee confronted the suspect at which time the suspect raised his shirt indicating he was armed with a handgun.  The suspect fled on foot from the store and was pursued by two citizens who had witnessed the incident.  The suspect was able to elude capture. The Criminal Investigations Division was contacted and assumed the investigation.  During additional interviews conducted on July 8, 2014, a witness indicated he observed the handle of a firearm protruding from the waistband of the suspect.

On July 7, 2014, Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives received information regarding a possible suspect and provided the information to  CID detectives who were able to identify the suspect as Kevin Bryan Wright, age 29, of Great Mills, and obtain a warrant for his arrest.  On July 11, 2014, members of the Sheriff’s Office Lexington Park COPs UNIT located and arrested Wright on the outstanding warrant.  Wright was served the warrant obtained by Detective Croyle charging him with Armed Robbery, Robbery, Firearm Use / in Commission of a Felony, Theft less than $1,000 and incarcerated in the St. Mary’s County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond.
