The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office
is investigating several cases where motion picture money is being utilized to
purchase items posted for sale online. The individual will arrange to meet and
purchase the item advertised for sale and pay utilizing counterfeit money
produced for use in movies and on television. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s
Office encourages citizens to be vigilant when meeting individuals they are
unfamiliar with to sell items and suggests only meeting in public areas
equipped with video surveillance.
Anyone who has received counterfeit
motion picture money or has any information on these cases is asked to contact
the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office at (301) 475-8008. Citizens may remain anonymous and contact
Crime Solvers at (301) 475-3333, or text a tip to “TIP239” plus their message
to “CRIMES” (274637). Through the Crime
Solvers Program tipsters are eligible for an award of up to $1,000 for
information about a crime in St. Mary’s County that leads to an arrest or
indictment.
