Serious Motor Vehicle Collision in the area of Three Notch and South Sandgates Road

On February 26, 2016, at 10:34 P.M. patrol units from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Three Notch Road and South Sandgates Road for the report of a serious motor vehicle collision. Units arrived on scene to discover the operator was trapped in the vehicle and was unresponsive.  Due to the severity of the injuries, members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit were requested.

Preliminary investigation revealed Michael Sullivan Bauckman, age 41, of California, was traveling southbound on Three Notch Road in a 2012 Nissan Murano.  For unknown reasons, Bauckman’s vehicle left the roadway and entered the culvert in the median.  As the vehicle traveled up the culvert, it was launched into the air before rolling over and coming to rest on the northbound shoulder.  Bauckman was transported to Prince George’s County Shock Trauma by Trooper 7, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Speed appears to be a factor in the collision.  At this point, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor in the collision.  Anyone with any information regarding the collision is asked to contact DFC. Beyer #246 at 301-475-4040 or Christopher.Beyer@stmarysmd.com.
