On July 18, 2015, at 1:51 PM, deputies responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Piney Point Road near Quiet Acre Lane. On arrival, deputies found 2 pick-up trucks had been involved in a head-on collision.
Members of the Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Chevrolet 2500 truck, being operated by Thomas Crowder, age 18, of Leonardtown, was traveling southbound on Piney Point Road. Crowder reported his vehicle experienced mechanical failure causing it to cross into the northbound lane and strike a 2002 GMC 3500 truck, operated by Joseph Adams, age 17, of California. There were no other occupants in either vehicle at the time of the crash.
Adams suffered life-threatening injuries and was last listed in critical condition. Crowder was released from the hospital after treatment.
