Vice Narcotics Make Arrest in Prescription Fraud Scheme - Elaunda Mitchell

Detectives received information regarding a possible fraudulent prescription being passed at a pharmacy in Charlotte Hall. Detectives responded and after obtaining additional information from the establishment and the alleged issuing physician, it was confirmed the prescription was fraudulent. Suspect Elaunda Candice Mitchell (Age 35 of Landover Hills, MD) arrived at the establishment, identified herself using the alias on the fraudulent prescription, and took custody of it. Detectives immediately stopped her and recovered evidence which included documentation indicating suspect Mitchell has been perpetrating a prescription fraud scheme at various other pharmacies in the southern Maryland region. Elaunda Mitchell was arrested and charged with attempting to obtain a prescription by fraud/deceit and attempting to obtain a prescription by using a false name. Additional charges are pending a review with State’s Attorney Richard D. Fritz.
