SUSPECT RUNS FROM COPs UNIT & K9 FINDS DRUGS

On July 25, 2014, Sergeant Safford assigned to the Lexington Park COPs UNIT, attempted to stop a white Pontiac passenger vehicle for a traffic violation in the area of South Essex Drive and South Shangri La Drive in Lexington Park. The operator of the vehicle failed to stop and continued to Missouri Avenue toward the dead end. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods. Deputy Krum had arrived in the area and was able to intercept the driver as he exited the wooded area. The driver, identified as Christopher Dwain Harrod, 29, of Lexington Park, was placed under arrest by Deputy Krum.

Corporal Rishel and his K9 partner Noro (pictured) conducted a track,  while deputies were initially looking for Harrod, and a baggie of suspected marijuana was found a short distance away from where he was apprehended.

A subsequent check of Harrod’s driver’s license revealed his priviledge to drive was revoked with 8 suspensions. Harrod was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged with Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance – Marijuana, Driving While revoked, Driving While Suspended, and Fleeing and Eluding by Deputy Krum.
