Victims Assaulted at Funeral Reception

Drayden, Maryland - On December 5, 2014 at 4:30 PM, deputies responded to St. George's Church located on St. George's Church Road, for a reported assault. Deputies located a male victim suffering from serious head and leg injuries. The victim was subsequently flown to an area hospital by helicopter. A second male victim suffered minor injuries and remained on the scene. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded and assumed the investigation. 

The investigation revealed the victims were attending a funeral reception at the Valley Lee fire house along with suspects Steven Wendell Mason, 49, of Lexington Park and Stevin Wendell Mason, 25, of Lexington Park. An argument broke out between the victims and suspects. At some point they all left in vehicles and went to St. George's Church where the argument escalated. The first victim was allegedly struck by a vehicle driven by one of the suspects. The victim was pinned underneath the vehicle when all three suspects began to strike the victim in the head with metal pipes and a baseball bat. The second victim and another family member were able to intervene and pull the first victim from underneath the truck. 

Suspects Stephen Mason and Steven Mason were placed under arrest on the scene and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. Stephen Mason was charged with 2 COUNTS 1st Degree Assault and 2 COUNTS 2nd Degree Assault. Suspect Steven Mason was charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault. An arrest warrant has been issued for suspect Stevin Wendell Mason.
