On Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at approximately 1:30 p.m members of the St.
Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported serious motor vehicle
collision on Patuxent Beach Road in the area of North Patuxent Beach Road.
Deputies arrived on scene to discover a head-on, two vehicle collision.
Preliminary investigation determined a 2009 Toyota Rav 4, operated by Diane
Vanaman of Great Mills, was traveling south on Patuxent Beach Road when her
vehicle crossed the center line and entered the northbound lanes. Vanaman's
vehicle then struck a 2011 GMC Acadia operated by Genevieve Piatt of Lusby.
Vanaman was pronounced dead on the scene. Piatt was transported by Maryland
State Police Trooper 7 to Prince George's Hospital Center with non-life
threatening injuries.

Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The
cause of the collision remains under investigation.
