This week, the men and women of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office were recognized for their exemplary service during the first three months of 2021.
Deputy of the Quarter: Deputy First Class Andrew Budd

DFC Budd has continuously proved to be a dedicated and highly motivated officer. His dedication and efforts in the first quarter of 2021 have positively impacted the lives of many citizens and cases spanning various divisions, agencies and even jurisdictions. On Feb. 14, 2021, DFC Budd assisted the Maryland State Police in a traffic stop and located a loaded handgun in the vehicle. Later that evening, DFC Budd assisted in life saving measures to a person not breathing.
Correctional Officer of the Quarter: Correctional Officer Jeremy Pelczar

CO Pelczar is a reliable field officer who requires little supervision to complete his duties while assigned to any post. He has great communication skills when dealing with issues and is able to deescalate most situations.

Members of the Lexington Park COPs Unit, Criminal Investigations Division and Patrol deputies received a Sheriff's Salute for their quick and decisive action, immediate response and lengthy investigation in a robbery investigation that resulted in the recovery of a loaded handgun, several extended magazines, illegal drugs and US currency.

CO Absher was commended for preventing Controlled Dangerous Substances from entering the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in three separate occasions.

Sgt. Britt was commended for his diligence and attention to detail in following up with another county agency in assistance to check the welfare of an out-of-county citizen based on correspondence at the jail.
