The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the identity of the person pictured and shown on video. On Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019 at 5:30 p.m., the suspect stole a 1950s nurse’s cape from a historical exhibit at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown. On View Arrests, Warrants, DUI, Criminal Citation

On View Arrests:

Resisting Arrest/Theft-  On February 17, 2019, Dep. Edwards responded to the Walmart store located on Miramar Way in California, for the reported customer causing a disturbance.  Upon arrival it was determined Breanna Michelle Randall, age 29 of Great Mills, was observed removing items from their packaging and then placing the items into her backpack.  Randall was then observed in the electronics section taking a cellphone out of a sealed package, after being told by employees not to remove the phone from the package.  Employees took the phone from Randall, at which time she began causing a disturbance in the store.  Randall proceeded to the checkout area, grabbed a beverage from the cooler, and then proceeded past all points of sale, without purchasing the beverage or items in her backpack.  Randall then proceeded outside where she began causing a scene and yelling at customers.  When Dep. Edwards made contact with Randall she continued her disruptive behavior and refused to cease her actions when ordered to do so by Dep. Edwards.  Randall was placed under arrest; once in the patrol vehicle Randall began kicking the vehicle.  Discovered in Randall's backpack were several cosmetic items and fake nails which had not been purchased. Drug Arrest-  On February 18, 2019, Cpl. Stone conducted a premise check in the parking lot of Big Dog's Paradise, located in Mechanicsville.  Cpl. Stone located a suspicious vehicle and made contact with the occupants.  The passenger later identified as Gregory Troy Taylor, age 32 of Great Mills, was observed attempting to conceal something in the vehicle, as well as he was observed consuming alcohol in the vehicle.  Taylor attempted to discard folded paper in the parking lot, and it was discovered the paper contained a baggie with suspected cocaine; Taylor was arrested and charged with CDS: Possess- Not Marijuana, CDS: Possess-Paraphernalia, and Consume Alcoholic Beverage in Public.  CASE# 10155-19

Assault/Resisting Arrest-  On February 18, 2019, DFC. McClure responded to the 48400 block of Heritage Hill Lane in St. Inigoes for the reported assault.  Investigation determined David Richard Speakman, age 24 of St. Inigoes, assaulted the victim by punching the victim repeatedly in the back, kicking, and strangling the victim.  Visible signs of injury were observed on the victim, and Speakman was arrested.  While being taken into custody, Speakman resisted, and tried to flee from officers while in handcuffs.  Speakman was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resist/Interfere with Arrest, and Escape 2nd Degree.  CASE# 10222-19

Drug Arrest/Theft-  On February 18, 2019, DFC. Muschette responded to the 45200 block of Coledorall Court in California, for the reported suspicious vehicle.  DFC. Muschette located a vehicle blocking a driveway, with the driver asleep in the vehicle; also visible in the vehicle cup holder was a plastic baggie containing a white substance, (suspected cocaine). The operator of the vehicle was identified to be Anthony Edward Small, age 19 of California.  A check of the vehicle indicated it was reported stolen out of Prince George's County.  Small was arrested and charged with CDS: Possession-Not Marijuana and Theft.  CASE# 10216-19

02/17/19-  DFC. J. Davis responded to the 20700 block of Old Great Mills Road in Great Mills, for the reported hit and run accident.  Contact was made with the victim who advised while making a turn, a vehicle struck the victim's vehicle and drove away.  Investigation determined the striking vehicle was operated by Larry Donell Dorsey, age 58 of  Lexington Park.  Contact was made with Dorsey, and it was determined he was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  Dorsey was arrested and charged with Driving Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol, and Failure to Remain at Scene of an Accident.  CASE# 10118-19

02/19/19-  David Richard Speakman, was charged with Theft via a Criminal Citation by DFC. Muschette, after he entered the Walmart store located on Miramar Way in California, and went behind a register and removed two packs of cigarettes and a lighter.  Speakman then fled the store; Speakman was located and charged with Theft via a Criminal Citation.  CASE# 10211-19

Fatal Accident Involving Pedestrian

On February 25, 2019, at approximately 9:45 p.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 27200 block of Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville for the reported check the welfare of a pedestrian in the roadway. Deputies arrived on scene and located the pedestrian lying in the roadway, suffering from injuries. Lifesaving measures were performed however the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries on scene.  The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and continued the investigation. 

Preliminary investigation determined the pedestrian, Louis Steven Fenwick, age 41 of Leonardtown was walking on the northbound side of Three Notch Road in the area of New Market Turner Road, near the Korner Karryout, wearing dark clothing. Fenwick was struck by a Lexus ES350 operated by Denise Gimoi Wong, age 51 of Waldorf.  At this time the pedestrian being illegally in the roadway appears to be a contributing factor. At this time alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision.

ID Needed for B&E Suspect


The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the identity of the person pictured. On Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 at 6:27 a.m., the suspect entered the victim’s unlocked car in the 41800 block of Tomey Court in the Academy Hills neighborhood in Leonardtown. The suspect appears to be wearing leopard-print pajama pants. Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect or this incident is asked to call Cpl. Traffic Tip Tuesdays: Seat Belts



In an effort to promote awareness of state traffic laws, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office posts excerpts of the 2018-2019 edition of The Maryland Vehicle Law Annotated on Tuesdays.

Adhering to the law will make roadways in St. Mary’s County and in Maryland safer for drivers, passengers, bicyclists, horse-and-buggy operators and pedestrians.

Mandatory Seat Belts:

Sec. 22-412.3 Drivers and passengers in a motor vehicle in Maryland must wear their seat belts. “Unless a person is restrained by a seat belt, the person may not be a passenger in a … front seat of a motor vehicle. Unless a person is restrained by a seat belt, the person may not be a passenger in a rear seat of a motor vehicle.”

The ticket for a driver or front passenger without a seat belt is $83. The ticket is also $83 for an unbuckled rear seat passenger but is a secondary offense. The driver of the vehicle is responsible for ensuring that all passengers are buckled in.

Sheriff's Office Welcomes 12 New Deputies



Sheriff Tim Cameron and the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office welcome 12 new deputies to the ranks of law enforcement in the agency.

The group took the oath of office and graduated from the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy Police Entrance Level Training Program 46 on Friday.

With the addition of the new deputies, Sheriff Cameron told their family members on Friday, "I can't help but smile." In completing the Police Entrance Level Training Program, "what they did is not easy. The Academy is difficult," the Sheriff said.

The 12 new deputies are assigned to the Patrol Division and will now go through two more months of training with Field Training Officers.

The new deputies are: Latisha Baker, Joseph Bowling, Andrew Burgess, Austin Edelen, James Fretwell, Michael Graves, Kyler Kilgore, Benjamin Luffey, Michael Rycyzyn, Max Schell, Travis Wimberly and Alexander Wynnyk.

Controlled Detonation at Elms Beach This Afternoon

Update: The controlled detonation is complete. 

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Dahlgren Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), will conduct a small, single controlled detonation at Elms Beach south of Lexington Park this afternoon. Personnel will be on the scene to ensure that the area is safe and secure before conducting any detonation.

The controlled detonation is to safely dispose of a marine location marker that washed ashore at Elms Beach.

There is no threat to the public, but the detonation may be heard in the area of Elms Beach.

The Sheriff’s Office will provide an update when the event has concluded.

Husband and Wife Arrested for Robbery in Lexington Park


On February 20, 2019, at approximately 11:40 a.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 21800 block of North Shangri La Drive in Lexington Park, for the reported robbery.  Investigation determined the female victim exited a business and was confronted by a female, later identified as Samantha Ann Somerville, age 30 with no fixed address. Somerville asked the victim a question, and then attempted to take the victim’s purse.  The victim did not relinquish the purse, at which time Somerville sprayed the victim in the face with Mace.  Somerville then gained control of the victim’s purse, at which time she and a male, later identified as Wayne Darnell Somerville Jr., age 31 with no fixed address, fled the area on foot. 

A citizen in the area observed the commotion, and pursued the suspects to an area business.  Corporals Vincent Pontorno and Timothy Snyder arrived on scene and conducted a check of the business, locating Samantha and Wayne Somerville in the restroom.  A check of the restroom revealed clothing discarded in the trash consistent with both the victim and witness’ description of what the suspect was wearing during the robbery, as well as the victim’s wallet hidden in the back of the toilet. The victim’s credit card was located in Wayne Somerville’s jacket, and Mace was located in Samantha Somerville’s backpack and Wayne Somerville was also found to have a can of Mace.  Both suspects were arrested and charged with the following:

Samantha and Wayne Somerville are currently incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on a no bond status.

Wanted for Escape-James Mark Kimble


The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the whereabouts of James Mark Kimble, age 33 of California, Maryland.  Kimble was on pretrial release for the charge of burglary, and removed his GPS tracking device.  Kimble is 6’4” in height and weighs 175 pounds; he has brown hair and brown eyes.  Kimble is currently wanted for the charge of Escape Second Degree.

Handgun in Vehicle Arrest-Lexington Park


On February 16, 2019, Deputy Westphal observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed in the 21300 block of Three Notch Road in Lexington Park.  Dep. Westphal attempted to catch up to the vehicle, however the vehicle accelerated and pulled away. Dep. Westphal  ultimately located the vehicle which had crashed into a traffic signal pole, in the area of Three Notch Road and Hermanville Road. Dep. Westphal observed an individual, later identified as Knealand Antonio Strain, age 37 of Lexington Park, running from the accident scene.  Strain was detained and was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.  Investigation determined the handgun had been reported stolen, and Strain was prohibited from legally possessing a firearm.  Strain was arrested and charged with the following:

Assault-  On February 13, 2019, Cpl. Maloy responded to the 46100 block of Ellenbee Court in Lexington Park, for the reported assault.  Contact was made with the victim who advised Jose Manuel Murillo Ayala, age 31 of Lexington Park, assaulted the victim by choking and throwing the victim down in the bathroom.  Murillo Ayala was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 9055-19

Disorderly Conduct-  On February 13, 2019, Dep. Forinash responded to the Dollar General located on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park, for the reported check the welfare of a female in the restroom.   As Dep. Forinash was on scene Megan Leanne Murphy, age 25 with no fixed address, exited the restroom; at the complainant's request, Dep. Forinash began the paperwork for a no trespass notice.  Murphy became hostile and began cursing and making a scene in the business.  Murphy did not cease her actions when advised to do so by Dep. Assault-  On February 14, 2019, DFC. Molitor responded to the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, for a reported assault between two inmates.  Investigation determined Thomas Franklin Hill, age 44 of Mechanicsville, and Adam Silcott Roberts, age 26 of Lexington Park, assaulted each other while the parties were arguing at indoor recreation.  Hill and Roberts were both charged with Assault 2nd Degree.  CASE# 9360-19

Assault-  On February 14, 2019, Dep. Edwards responded to 45700 block of Guenther Drive in Great Mills, for the reported assault.  Investigation determined Chelsie Monet Stanley, age 24 of Great Mills, assaulted the victim during an argument.  The victim advised Stanley knocked the victim to floor, sat on the victim, pulled the victim's hair, and would not allow the victim up.  Dep. Threat of Arson-  On February 16, 2019, Cpl. Kerby responded to the 37900 block of Lawrence Place in Mechanicsville for the reported property destruction.  Investigation determined Derrell Charles Swann, age 32 of Mechanicsville, arrived at the victim's property and a dispute ensued.  Swann then drove his vehicle through the victim's fence damaging the fence.  Swann also made verbal threats to burn down the victim's residence.  Swann was arrested and charged with Arson/Threat and Malicious Destruction of Property.  CASE# 9885-19 (No Photograph Available)

Robbery Update


Feb. 20, 2019 update: Anthony Martise Barnes, age 38 with no fixed address, has been arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery and Theft: $100-$1,500. On Feb. 16, 2019, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Donut Connection at 21801 North Shangri La Drive in Lexington Park for a reported robbery.  Preliminary investigation revealed a black male suspect threatened an employee with a weapon and forced entry to the business. Once inside of the business, the suspect stole an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency and fled the area.   

The suspect is described as follows:
Black male with short black hair, scruffy facial hair in a beard and goatee, a black hooded jacket with fur lining on the edge of the hood, blue jeans, and gray sneakers.

Belk Theft Suspect Identified


The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the identity of the person pictured. On Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 at 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019 at 2:51 p.m., the suspect exited the Belk store in California with a large plastic bag of clothing that he did not pay for.
