St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Bomb Threat at Spring Ridge Middle School

On October 18, 2016, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the St. Mary’s County Public Schools Department of Safety and Security was notified of a bomb threat made via telephone stating, “You don’t know me, and I don’t know you, but there is a bomb in the school”. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer was at the school at the time the phone call was received, and an immediate coordinated assessment and investigation of the threat were initiated immediately. 

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office K9 Explosive Detection Unit responded to the scene and completed a complete canvass of the school and found no threats. 

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and St. Mary’s County Public Schools investigate every threat seriously, and all precautionary measures will be taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.
