On August 15, 2016, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Philip J. Bean Medical Center for the report of a man with a gun. A witness believed a man pulled out a gun in the lobby of the medical center, holstered it and then walked away. Numerous units arrived on scene, secured the medical center, and further investigation determined the report to be unfounded. The investigation confirmed the alleged gun was a cell phone.
