Disorderly Conduct-  10/26/17, Cpl. Foor responded to the 22000 block of Three Notch Road, in California, in reference to a disturbance. Upon arriving on scene Cpl. Foor could hear Suspect Scott Nathaniel Brown, age 22, of Great Mills, yelling at customers and creating a loud disturbance inside an establishment.  Brown was placed under arrest and charged with Disturbing the Peace, Disorderly Conduct, and Intoxicated/Public Disturbance. Drug Arrest-  On 10/26/17, Suspect Heather Marie Garner, age 29, of Hollywood, was discovered to have a controlled dangerous substance on her person during a traffic stop.  Garner was arrested and charged with CDS: Possession-Not Marihuana by DFC. Potter.  CASE# 56551-17

Threats of Arson- On 10/26/17, Dep. M. Beyer# 319 responded to the 22000 block of Briarwood Court, in Lexington Park, in reference to a disturbance.  Contact was made with the victim who advised the suspect Paulette Michele Johnson, age 27, of Lexington Park, made threats to blow up the residence and burn the victim.  Johnson was arrested and charged with Threat of Arson.  CASE# 56557-17

Comunity/Recruitment Event- MURPH Challenge #BeTheFIRST

On October 22, 2017, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, hosted a MURPH Challenge to encourage recruitment to the agency and sponsor a fun community event.  Participants competed in a series of events: 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, followed by another 1 mile run.  Numerous agency employees participated in the fitness challenge.  The different divisions within the Sheriff's Office were represented and provided prospective employees an opportunity to view the different aspects of our agency.  Representatives and equipment from the Patrol Division, Special Operations, Corrections, and Criminal Investigations were on hand along with specialty collateral assignments such as Emergency Services, Motor Unit, Bike Patrol, and Segways to name a few. The Sheriff's Office plans to host more community/recruitment events such as this in the future.

Prescription Take Back Initiative

The Drug Enforcement Administration is having its 14th National Prescription Take Back Initiative on Saturday, October 28, 2017.  The purpose of this initiative is to properly dispose of unneeded, unwanted, or expired controlled prescription drugs. The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office encourages citizens to dispose of any unwanted medication in our medication drop boxes located in our Sheriff's Office Lobby. Since 2011, the Sheriff's Office has participated in the Medication Drop Off Program.  Through this program, citizens can safely dispose of medication in collection boxes which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Medications that may be dropped in these boxes consist of pills, patches, and liquids.  As a result of this program, the Sheriff's Office has collected over 1.4 million prescription pills. The medication drop boxes are located in the lobby of the Sheriff's Office at 23150 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650.
