Suspect Charged with 1st Degree Assault - Roland Fenwick

Great Mills, Maryland - On April 29th at 11:36 PM, deputies responded to a residence on Charles Way, for a domestic assault involving a firearm. The investigation revealed, the victim engaged in an argument with the suspect, identified as Roland Louise Fenwick, age 51, of Great Mills, while at Fenwick's home. Fenwick suddenly threw the victim on the sofa and began to strangle the victim with his hands. The victim was able to break free and run out of the home. The victim ran to a neighbor's home while Fenwick gave chase with a shotgun pointed at the victim's head. The neighbor let the victim and a relative of the victim, who also fled Fenwick's home during the assault, inside. However, Fenwick quickly entered the home in pursuit of the victims without the homeowner's consent while still armed with the shotgun. The relative of the victim was able to take the shotgun away from Fenwick and run from the home. Fenwick then fled from the neighbor's home. Deputies later determined Fenwick had left the area in a vehicle prior to their arrival. Fenwick also stole the victim's cell phone during the assault.  

Numerous deputies and a Sheriff's Office K9 unit responded and conducted an exhaustive search for Fenwick, but were unable to locate him. 

Deputy L. Johnson immediately applied for an arrest warrant, which was issued by the District Court Commissioner. 

On April 30th at approximately 9:00 AM, Fenwick was located at the Charles Way address and placed under arrest. He was served the warrant charging him with 2 COUNTS 1st Degree Assault, 2 COUNTS 2nd Degree Assault, Home Invasion, Theft Under $1,000, Rifle/Shotgun Possession with Felony Conviction, and Use of a Firearm in Commission of Crime of Violence.

Assault – On April 27th Deputy Lawrence responded to the 22000 block of Valley Estates Drive in Lexington Park, for a reported assault. Callers to the Emergency Communications Center reported hearing cries for help. Deputy Lawrence located the victim who alleged suspect Anthony Michael Ajitsingh, age 26, of Lexington Park, strangled the victim with his hands during an argument over car keys. Ajitsingh was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with 2nd Degree Assault. CASE #24447-15

Arrests 4-27-15

Theft – On April 21, 2015, Corporal Rogers responded to Kohl’s Department Store for a reported theft. A loss prevention employee observed 2 female suspects conceal several pieces of merchandise. Both suspects then left the store passing all points of purchase. The suspects were able to flee in a vehicle, however responding deputies located the car. The suspects, identified as Sara Ann Jones, age 20, of Lusby, and Haley Marie Gott, age 18, of Lusby, were in possession of over $270.00 in stolen merchandise. Assault – On April 25, 2015, Deputy Dale Smith responded to a residence on Scarborough Road in Lexington Park, for a domestic assault in progress. During an argument over money, the suspect identified as Susan Michelle Furr, age 28, of Lexington Park, bit the victim. Deputy Smith observed a fresh injury on the victim. Furr was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. She was charged with 2nd Degree Assault. CASE #23942-15

Child Abuse – On April 25, 2015, Corporal Kirkner responded to a residence in the 44000 block of Clarkes Landing Road in Hollywood. The occupants of the home called 9 1 1 after two children, (ages 8 and 12), who live nearby, ran to their home after allegedly being assaulted by their mother. The older child alleged suspect Loren Bliss Cyr, age 32, of Hollywood, threw the victim off of a bed and strangled the victim with her hands. The victim was able to escape only to be chased down by Cyr. Cyr then grabbed the victim’s arm and hair. The victim got away again only to be chased down by Cyr who continued to strangle the victim with her hands. The victim was able to escape with the younger sibling to a nearby home for help. The victim suffered non life-threatening injuries. Cyr was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. She was charged with 2nd Degree Child Abuse by Custodian and 2nd Degree Assault. CASE #23881-15

Fatal Crash - Lexington Park

Lexington Park, Maryland - On April 25, 2015, at 1:10 AM, deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on Pegg Road and Westbury Boulevard. Deputies found a vehicle off the roadway overturned. The front seat passenger, identified as Michael Dobbins, age 27, of Lexington Park, was able to get out of the vehicle, however the driver was trapped inside. Dobbins was transported to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. The driver, identified as Stephen Adams, age 29, of Marbury, Maryland, was pronounced dead on the scene. Dobbins and Adams were the only two occupants of the vehicle.

The preliminary investigation indicated the 1993 Chevrolet Caprice was traveling southbound on Pegg Road when it left the roadway, struck a guardrail on the northbound shoulder, and overturned. The vehicle came to rest in a wooded area on the northbound side of Pegg Road. 

Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Team members responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.

Suspect Charged After Pointing Gun at Tow Driver - Fenwick

Lexington Park, Maryland - On April 22, 2015, at 10:20 PM, Deputy Muschette responded to Fox Chase Drive, for the report of a man with a gun. A caller to 9 1 1 provided a description of  the suspect with the gun. Deputy Muschette observed two subjects in the area matching the description and they were detained. 

The investigation revealed, the victim, a tow truck driver for Precision Towing, alleged the two subjects became angry at him for being in the apartment complex. During the exchange, one of the two subjects, identified as suspect Mark Albert Fenwick, age 22, of Lexington Park, produced a handgun. Fenwick then pointed the handgun at the victim. Fearing for his life, the victim quickly got into the truck and left, while Fenwick ran into a nearby stairwell in the apartment complex. 

During the incident, Fenwick threatened to shoot another resident in the apartment complex after the resident looked outside to see what was happening. 

Fenwick was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was charged with 1st Degree Assault. CASE #23060-15

Detectives Arrest 2 After Robbery in Lexington Park

Lexington Park - On April 19, 2015, deputies responded to the Queen Anne Park Apartment complex on Great Mills Road, for a reported assault. Deputies located 2 male victims with significant injuries. One of the victims had a large cut on his face and a possible head injury. He was flown to an area hospital for treatment. The second victim was transported to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital by ambulance. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. 

The investigation revealed a female began to argue with the two victims over a parking space. The female told her boyfriend, identified as suspect Tavon Mariando Thompson, age 18, of no fixed address, and his friend identified as suspect Deodis Lee Clyburn, JR., age 20, of Lexington Park, who then confronted the two victims in front of an apartment on Eric Road. Thompson and Clyburn began to strike the victims in the face. Clyburn struck one of the victims knocking him out. As the victim lay on the pavement, Clyburn stomped the victim's face with his foot. Clyburn then stole the same victim's property while he lay on the pavement unconscious. Meanwhile, Thompson was assaulting the second victim by punching him in the face until bystanders intervened. Thompson tried to steal the second victim's wallet, however the victim was able to stop him. 

Thompson and Clyburn were placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. 

Thompson was charged with Robbery, 1st Degree Assault, and 2nd Degree Assault.

Fatal Crash - Great Mills

Great Mills, Maryland - On April 22, 2015, at 5:19 PM, deputies, fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to Boothe Farm Lane located off of Flat Iron Road, for a serious motor vehicle crash. Deputies located a single vehicle that had crashed into a tree. The driver and sole occupant of the 2000 Chrysler Cirrus, identified as Ashley Lauren Taylor, age 25, of California, Maryland, was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Unit members responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation indicated Taylor was traveling westbound on Boothe Farm Lane when she lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a tree. At this time, speed is believed to be a contributing factor. Arrests 4-22-15

DUI/Drug Possession – On April 14, 2015, Deputy LaFave responded to a lookout broadcast by the Emergency Communications Center for a burgundy vehicle operating in a reckless manner. Deputy LaFave observed the vehicle stopped in the travel portion of the roadway on Three Notch Road at the Route 4 intersection. The vehicle remained stopped after the traffic signal turned green. The operator, identified as James Edwards Stewart III, age 38, of Lexington Park, was slumped over the wheel. Stewart was breathing but not responsive. Deputy LaFave placed the vehicle in park and was able to then wake Stewart up. Deputy LaFave detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and field sobriety tests were subsequently administered. Stewart did not pass the tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest. A search of the vehicle was conducted at which time a suspected  oxycodone tablet was located in the center cup holder. Stewart’s driving privilege in Maryland was also suspended and revoked. He was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance: Not Marijuana, Driving Under the Influence, Driving Without a License, Driving While Suspended/Revoked, and Negligent Driving. Trespassing – On April 15, 2015, Deputy J. Smith observed suspect Troy David Yates, age 49, of Lexington Park, coming out of the Subway located in Millison Plaza. Yates had been issued a notice not to trespass for the Millision Plaza Property on 3-20-14 and 1-29-15 by Deputy Cole. Yates was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Trespassing. CASE #21422-15

Drug Possession – On April 17, 2015, Deputy Flerlage stopped a silver Dodge sport utility vehicle for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the driver and sole occupant, identified as Joseph Jeremiah Reed, age 33, of Waldorf, Deputy Flerlage smelled an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted at which time a cellophane baggie containing two (2) blue pills, (suspected oxycodone), was located under the passenger side front seat.  Reed was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance: Not Marijuana. CASE #21836-15

Assault – On April 18, 2015, Deputy Schultz responded to a residence on Park Pines Drive in Lexington Park, for a reported assault. The victim alleged suspect Edwin Standford Foote, JR., age 52, of Lexington Park, poked the victim in the face then grabbed the victim’s chin. The victim attempted to leave in a vehicle, however Foote stood in front of the car door. Foote moved after the victim threatened to call police. Foote was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with 2nd Degree Assault. CASE #22132-15

Assault – On April 18, 2015, Deputy H. Smith responded to a residence in the 39000 block of Mount Wolf Road in Charlotte Hall, for a reported attempted burglary. The victim alleged suspect, Marc Joseph Batholomew, age 47, of Charlotte Hall, began arguing with the victim over damage to a window. Batholomew picked the victim up under the armpits and pushed the victim into a hallway. Batholomew was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Theft – On April 18, 2015, Deputy Knott responded to the California Walmart for a reported theft. A loss prevention employee alleged suspect Katherine Marie Higgs, age 37, of Avenue, entered the self-checkout with a cart full of merchandise. She scanned and paid for a few of the items then attempted to leave the store with entire cart of merchandise. The value of the stolen items was over $130.00. Theft/Drug Possession – On April 19, 2015, Corporal Seyfried responded to the California Walmart for a reported theft. A loss prevention employee reported suspects Patricia Josephine Fields, age 23, of Leonardtown, and Amber Renne Stewart, age 24, of Lusby, stole items of merchandise from the business. They concealed the items and had passed all points of sale when they were stopped by loss prevention. The total value of merchandise was over $80.00. During a search conducted after their arrest, both suspects were found to be in possession of hypodermic needles used to inject heroin. Fields and Stewart were transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged with Theft Under $100 and Possession Paraphernalia. CASE #22428-15

Drug Possession – On April 20, 2015, Deputy Fennessey responded to a residence on Horseshoe Road in Clements, at the request of members of the Maryland Department of Public Safety Warrant Apprehension Unit. Detectives responded to the residence to serve an arrest warrant on Laffan Xavier Price, age 57, of Leonardtown. Detectives observed a male suspect matching the description of Price fleeing on foot. The male was subsequently apprehended and identified as Laffan Price. As Price fled on foot, detectives saw him throw a clear plastic bag under a vehicle. Inside the bag were several smaller folded pieces of paper containing suspected heroin. Price was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Possession Controlled Dangerous Substance – Not Marijuana. CASE #22549-15

How do I Report a Phishing or Telephone Scam to the IRS?

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office continues to receive reports from citizens regarding scams by email, text messaging, social media or by telephone from a person claiming to be from the IRS. The IRS has some great information available on how to protect your personal information, report a scam, and what to do if your information is compromised

What is phishing?

Phishing is a scam typically carried out through unsolicited email and/or websites that pose as legitimate sites and lure unsuspecting victims to provide personal and financial information. 

The Internal Revenue Service would like you to know:

The IRS doesn't initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information. This includes requests for PIN numbers, passwords or similar access information for credit cards, banks or other financial accounts.

Report all unsolicited email claiming to be from the IRS or an IRS-related function tophishing@irs.gov. Recent scams have used the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) to attract potential victims. Also, if you've experienced any monetary losses due to an IRS-related incident, please report it to the Treasury Inspector General Administration (TIGTA) and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) through their Complaint Assistant to make the information available to investigators.

Juvenile Charged with 1st Degree Assault - Ceva Scott

California, Maryland - On April 13, 2015 at 4:25 PM, Deputy Lawrence responded to a residence on Coledorall Court, for a reported assault. The victim alleged suspect Ceva Laurel Scott, age 17, of California, began an argument after the victim turned off Scott's cell phone the day before. Scott became enraged at which time the victim retreated to a bedroom and told Scott to go away. Scott followed the victim and began to attack the victim with her hands. Scott was able to pin the victim to the floor where she continued to hit the victim. The victim took self-defense action to end the attack. Scott then retrieved a kitchen knife and attempted to stab the victim. However, the victim was able to pick up a plastic trashcan and placed it in front of the victim's body. As Scott attempted to stab the victim, the knife plunged into the trashcan. She then fled the residence. Additionally, Scott caused property damage to items inside the residence during the assault.  

St. Mary's County State's Attorney Richard Fritz conducted a review of the case and determined Scott was to be charged as an adult. Scott was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. She was charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and Property destruction Under $1,000. Arrests 4-14-15

Stalking/Harassment – Detective Corporal Hulse from the Criminal Investigations Division made contact with a victim who alleged being stalked by a known suspect. The investigation revealed, suspect Matthew Donald Hutson, age 33, of Charlotte Hall, made audio recordings of the victim without the victim’s consent or knowledge. Hutson contacted the victim by phone several times after he was told to stop. He also drove past the victim’s home repeatedly. On 4-8-15, Hutson was arrested by warrant and charged with Stalking, Harassment: Course of Conduct, and Telephone Misuse. CASE #19792-15

Sex Offender Violation – On March 18, 2015, suspect John Allen Combs SR, age 42, of Lexington Park, was charged with Sexual Solicitation of a Minor. As a result, search and seizure warrants were executed. Evidence was obtained indicating Combs had a social media account and email account which he failed to disclose to the Sex Offender Registry as required by law. Detective Corporal Raddatz, of the Sex Offender Compliance Unit in the Criminal Investigations Division, arrested Combs on 4-10-15 by warrant. Assault – On April 11, 2015, Deputy Jason Smith responded to a residence on North Essex Drive in Lexington Park, for a domestic assault. The victim alleged suspect Dennis Paul Register, age 49, of Lexington Park, struck the victim in the face with his fist during an argument that started over dishes. Deputy Smith observed fresh injury on the victim. Register was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with 2nd Degree Assault. CASE #20445-15

Violation Protective Order – On April 11, 2015, at 2:30 PM, Deputy Bare responded to a residence in the 23000 block of Hollywood Road in Leonardtown, for an unrelated call for service. Deputy Bare found Paul Eugene Miller III, age 45, of Leonardown, unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked at a residence. Miller was woken up by first responders. A short time later, the victim, who is the protected party in an active protective order against Miller, arrived at the residence. The investigation revealed Miller was at the residence in violation of the order. Miller was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Miller was arrested again on April 11, 2015 at 11:30 PM, after he responded to the victim’s residence and knocked on the window in violation of the protective order. First Degree Assault – On April 11, 2015, DFC Teague responded to a residence on Millstone Landing Road, for a disturbance involving a knife. The victim alleged suspect Aja Keyyanna Sewell, age 25, of Lexington Park, engaged in an argument over the front door being left open. The argument escalated when Sewell grabbed a knife from the kitchen and swung the knife at the victim. A third party was able to separate the victim and Sewell. Sewell was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. She was charged with 1st and 2nd Degree Assault. CASE #20494-15

Assault – On April 11, 2015, Deputy Logue responded to a residence on Cambridge Avenue, for a reported domestic assault. The victim alleged suspect Dwann Errol McClary, age 31, of Lexington Park, slapped the victim across the face for no apparent reason. Deputy Logue observed fresh injury on the victim’s face. The victim alleged he observed suspect Jeffrey Lynn Thomas JR., age 19, of Waldorf, get into his 1996 EZ GO Golf cart and drive off. Thomas proceeded to drive the golf cart through the barrier chain causing minor damage. Thomas later got out of the golf cart and fled on foot into the woods. Thomas was located and placed under arrest. He was charged with Theft $1,000 to $10,000 and Property Destruction Under $1,000. CASE #20589-15

Theft – On April 12, 2015, Corporal Rogers responded to Kohls for a reported theft. An employee observed suspect Amy Gillian Crook, age 30, of St. Leonard, place items of merchandise inside a WaWa shopping bag. Crook then attempted to return the items for store credit. The value of the merchandise was over $370.00. Crook was charged with Theft Under $1,000 by criminal citation. CASE #20798-15

Violation Protective Order – On April 12, 2015, Deputy Siciliano responded to a residence on Liberty Street in Lexington Park, for a reported domestic issue. The emergency communications center advised suspect Darius Devaughn Gross, age 23, of Lexington Park, was the respondent in an active protective order and not allowed to have contact with the petitioner. Gross was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with Violation of Protective Order. CASE #20671-15

Assault – On April 12, 2015, Deputy Muschette responded to a residence in the 15000 block of Point Lookout Road in St. Inigoes, for a reported assault. The victim alleged suspect Jennifer Maria Price, age 33, of St. Inigoes, struck the victim in the face with a fist. Deputy Mushette observed fresh injury on the victim’s face. Price was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged with 2nd Degree Assault. CASE #20810-15

Assault – On April 13, 2015, Deputy LaFave responded to a reported assault located in the 18000 block of Three Notch Road in Demeron. The victim alleged suspect Kathleen Mary Denaro, age 55, of Dameron, cut the victim’s hand with a knife and struck the victim in the upper arm and chest with her hands during an argument. Deputy Lafave observed a fresh cut on the victim’s finger. Denaro was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. She was charged with 2nd Degree Assault. 4-11-15 Property Destruction - Deputies responded to fifteen (15) residences in the Mechanicsville Road area for reports of property destruction to mailboxes. All cases remain open.

4-12-15 Recovered Stolen Motor Vehicle - Deputy Fennessy located an abandonded 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass in the area of Broken Arrow Lane in Mechanicsville. A check of the registration revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from Charles County. CASE #20712-15

4-12-15 Motor Vehicle Crash (fly-out) - Deputies responded to Mechanicsville Road near Carpenter Drive and located a single vehicle crash. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned several times. The driver, identified as Paul Miller III, age 45, was flown to Suburban Hospital for treatment with non life-threatening injuries. CASE #20777-15

4-13-15 Motor Vehicle Crash (fly-out) - Deputies responded to St. Jerome's Neck Road for a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. Preliminary investigation indicates the driver, identified as James R. Sanders, age 38, failed to negotiate a turn and left the roadway. He was flown to Prince Georges Shock Trauma with non life-threatening injuries. CASE #21017-15
