SMCSO Seeking Identity of Strong Armed Robbery Suspect

UPDATE - September 14, 2016

The Criminal Investigations Division continued the robbery investigation and obtained evidence implicating a 17-year-old male suspect from Mechanicsville, Maryland.  On September 13, 2016, detectives located and arrested the juvenile in a parking lot in Mechanicsville, Maryland with the assistance of the Patrol Division and the Maryland State Police.


The juvenile was transported to the Cheltenham Youth Facility, pending an appearance in the Circuit Court for St. Mary’s County.


On August 18, 2016, at approximately 11:15 a.m., St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to the 22000 block of Duke Street in Leonardtown for a reported strong armed robbery. Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect approached an 84 year-old-victim, assaulted him, and then forcefully removed the victim’s wallet from him. The suspect fled on foot into the Leonardtown area. 

The suspect is described as a white male with a beard and dark hair, wearing brown pants and a dark colored belt, a white polo shirt, and white hi-top tennis shoes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Scott Ruest at 301-475-4200, ext. *2297 or by email, Scott.Ruest@stmarysmd.com.
